BCIwiki (bciwiki.com) — The General Office of China's Anhui Provincial People's Government (安徽省人民政府办公厅) issued the Action Plan for Accelerating Brain-Computer Interface Technology and Industry Development in Anhui (2026-2030) on June 15, 2026, under document number Wan Zheng Ban Mi [2026] No. 24.
The plan sets milestones at 2028 and 2030. By 2028 Anhui expects to join the national first tier in BCI technology and industry, with electrodes, chips and algorithms among the country's leaders, at least ten typical application scenarios in medicine and other fields, at least three approved clinical trials of invasive BCI systems, at least five systems developed for industrial, consumer and specialised use, and at least three backbone enterprises. By 2030 it expects a self-reliant and secure technology and industry system, with markedly improved treatment and rehabilitation for neurological and psychiatric conditions.
The spatial plan designates Hefei, Bengbu and Wuhu as one core and two wings. Hefei is to serve as the source of innovation and to attract leading firms and senior talent; Bengbu is to build on its smart sensor industry to process and validate key BCI components and to establish the Longhu Laboratory; and Wuhu is to draw on a national regional medical centre and top domestic medical resources, build a brain science institute at Wannan Medical College, and connect clinical research with application validation. The first main task supports the University of Science and Technology of China in leading a research institute together with the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, the Clinical Research Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the First Affiliated Hospital of USTC and industry partners. On funding, successful bidders in the provincial BCI scenario innovation competition receive up to 20% of scenario development costs, capped at 10 million yuan per project.
