BCIwiki (bciwiki.com) — Paradromics has appointed William J. Marks as chief clinical officer, according to Neurotech Pub. Marks brings nearly three decades of experience in clinical neuroscience, implantable medical devices, neuromodulation, and digital health. He will oversee clinical strategy, product development, clinical implementation, regulatory planning, and the company's long-term roadmap for new indications.
Paradromics is advancing the Connect-One early feasibility study of its Connexus BCI system, and announced the first surgical implantation in that study last month. The Connexus system uses an implantable high-density microelectrode array to gather data from the brain and send it to a discreet transceiver in the chest, then transmits through the skin to an external receiver. It aims to help patients with spinal cord injury, stroke, or ALS restore independent communication.
Marks previously served as a professor of neurology at the University of California, San Francisco for nearly two decades, was consultant medical director for Medtronic's global deep brain stimulation business from 2004 to 2010, held senior clinical leadership roles at Verily Life Sciences from 2016 to 2023, and co-founded Nexus NeuroTech Ventures.
