Paradromics Implant Lets First Participant Speak Her Own Words in Real Time

A Michigan woman who had nearly lost the ability to speak to motor neuron disease used Paradromics' Connexus device, implanted on the surface of her brain, to turn brain signals into words of her own choosing in real time and to talk with her family. The 421 platinum-iridium microwires at the edge of the device record signals from individual neurons, and software decodes them into text and synthesized speech. The work is part of the FDA-approved Connect-One early feasibility study; Connexus remains an investigational device, and the company plans six years of follow-up to assess safety and durability.

Guangzhou Workshop to Demonstrate EEG-Driven Closed-Loop TMS in July

Clinicians and researchers in Guangzhou, southern China, will get hands-on time with closed-loop systems that trigger transcranial magnetic stimulation from real-time EEG analysis at a workshop on July 17, 2026. Shenzhen Yingchi Technology, one of the supporting companies, will bring EEG-driven closed-loop TMS devices and near-infrared brain function imaging equipment. The session is organized by the Professional Committee on Brain Function Detection and Regulation Rehabilitation of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, alongside the committee's 2026 annual conference and the 8th Brain Function Detection and Regulation Rehabilitation Forum.

MEGIN Opens Dual-MEG Hyperscanning Facility at Tsinghua to Record Two Brains at Once

MEG systems maker MEGIN says it has opened a side-by-side dual-MEG hyperscanning facility at Tsinghua University in Beijing, built with the Department of Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering at Aalto University. Two MEGIN TRIUX neo systems sit in adjacent magnetically shielded rooms, which the company says allows simultaneous whole-head recording from two interacting participants with millisecond-level synchronization, opening a real-time window on how two brains interact during natural conversation, cooperation and play. MEGIN says the first scientific work from the facility will be presented at the BIOMAG 2026 conference in Beijing, running August 23 to 25, 2026; the announcement does not disclose what the facility cost, how long it took to build, or which research projects are already under way.

SpikeGadgets Takes Neuropixels Recording Wireless in Freely Moving Animals

SpikeGadgets has released wireless dataloggers compatible with Neuropixels probes, letting an animal carry the entire recording system and write high-density probe data straight to onboard storage instead of down a cable. Four studies over the past year used the setup in bats, rats and marmosets, and their findings are reshaping long-standing assumptions about hippocampal replay, prefrontal sequence coding and vocal communication.

OYMotion and MicroPort NeuroScientific Partner on Endovascular BCI Rehab System

OYMotion and MicroPort NeuroScientific signed a strategic cooperation agreement on May 28, 2026 to jointly develop an interventional brain-computer interface rehabilitation system. The first product will be a multi-channel endovascular BCI that threads a signal-recording stent through the blood vessels to a target brain region, capturing intracranial electrical activity without opening the skull. MicroPort NeuroScientific will build the BCI system as a whole and OYMotion the limb side, with the pair targeting medical rehabilitation and human-machine interaction.

Chinese Hospital Opens Its Own Brain-Computer Interface Research Institute

Tongji Hospital in Wuhan announced a brain-computer interface research institute on 5 September 2025, which it says is the first of its kind run by a hospital in China rather than by a university or a company. The institute covers basic research, clinical application and commercialisation, with the stated aim of building a full-chain BCI system spanning prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of neurological disease.
